Alfred J. Sydlo, 90, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke. He was born on July 16, 1925 in Chicopee and raised there, but lived in Springfield most of his life. Alfred was the son of the late Zygmunt and Eleanora (Godek) Sydlo.

He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Arizona State University, and worked as a regional director of the Division of Employment Security for the State of Massachusetts. Alfred was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus and an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He was a life time member of the American Legion Post 452 and the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849.

Alfred is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Lillian M. (Mironowich) Sydlo; two daughters, Theresa Gibson and her husband, Don of Westfield and Sandra Ward and her husband, Fredd of Hartford, CT and four grandchildren, Nate, Lindsey, Cassidy and Dylan. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his step mother, Anna Sydlo and all his brothers and sisters. Alfred’s family would like to thank the staff at the Soldiers Home for bringing such happiness to his final months.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St., in Chicopee at 9 am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus at 10 am. His burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm with a service at 6 pm.
