Alice M. (Lemanski) Kowal, 91, of Chicopee, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Wingate at Springfield. Alice was born on September 2, 1927 in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Kwasniak) Lemanski. She was a retired factory worker at the former Acme Chain Co., currently U.S. Tsubaki. Alice was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She enjoyed day trips and going to the beach with family and friends. Alice was a member of the South Hadley Senior Center Sewing Club. She made quilts and helmet liners to send to the troops. Alice also donated her quilts to The Barton Center for Diabetes Education and many other causes. Alice is survived by a daughter, Patricia Kamansky, and her husband, Edmund, of Leverett; a son, David Kowal, and his wife, Christine, of Northboro; four grandchildren, Derrick McCluskey, Ryan McCluskey, Daniel Kowal and James Kowal, step-granddaughter, Lisa Greaney and a great-grandchild, Grayson McCluskey. She is predeceased by her son, Daniel Kowal; a brother, Chester Lemanski, and her former husband, Stanley J. Kowal. The family would like to thank the staff at Wingate at Springfield and Mercy Life, and nurse Marc Aube for their loving care. Alice’s funeral will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St. in Chicopee Center at 9 a.m., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 56 St. Anthony St. in Chicopee at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions in Alice’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Western Mass, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
