Anthony S. Chmura, 91, of Springfield, died on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center. He was born on June 5, 1925 in Chicopee and was the son of the late Stanley and Josephine (Boczon) Chmura. Anthony worked as an auto mechanic at Godene Motor Co., but retired from the Danaher Corporation, the former Moore Drop Forge Co. He was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr and a World War II Army veteran. Anthony was a Technician 4th Grade in the 232nd Infantry serving in Central Europe and Rhineland in the Rainbow Division. He received an Honorable Discharge. Anthony enjoyed traveling, especially to Poland and Florida. He also enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable garden. Anthony is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Jane (Rodzen) Chmura, his sister, Helen Chunglo and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother, Frederick Chmura and four sisters, Stacia Saletnik, Vera Kermenski, Mary Lindner and Phyllis Gazda. Anthony’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the Basilica of St. Stanislaus at 10 am. Visitation is on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
