Eleanor M. (Mackey) Carroll, 91, of Chicopee, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at home with her family by her side. She was a medical secretary at Baystate Medical Center, then left to work in the office of Dr. James Hartshorn. She ended her career retiring from the former Medical West. After her retirement, Ellie worked part time as a cashier at Fruit Fair, where she enjoyed seeing many of her neighbors. Ellie was born on May 4, 1929 in Meriden CT. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Alice (Felton) Mackey. Family was everything to Ellie, and she enjoyed many celebrations with them throughout the years. On weekends, she loved visiting her family in the Berkshires. Baking pies for the holidays was her specialty. Ellie is survived by her four sons, William and his wife Carol, Daniel and his wife Marcy, David and his wife Sonja, and Timothy and his life partner Linda Olszewski; two daughters, Diane Dean, and Kelley Bassett and her husband Gary; her brother, John Mackey of Virginia, her sister, Ruth Salvatore of Lenox, MA. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson. Besides her parents, Ellie is predeceased by her husband William A. Carroll who died in 1977, her son Kevin M. Carroll, her brother Robert Mackey, her great granddaughter Harper Yucka, and a son- in- law Rick Dean. The family would like to thank Dr. Zhonhmo Yu for many years of excellent care. They would also like to thank the Drs. and nurses at Baystate Medical Center, Mass Mutual 7, Pod B for their care and compassion. Ellie’s funeral will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East Street, Chicopee Falls at 9 am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 387 Chestnut St., Springfield at 10 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Chicopee. Calling hours are on Thursday from 5-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
