Florence H. (Kruczek) Leonard, 92, of Los Angeles, CA, formerly of Holyoke, died on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. She was a retired sales clerk having served the local Holyoke and Chicopee communities for many years working for such retailers as W.T. Grant, Diane’s Dress Shop and Dorothy Dodd’s. Florence was born in Holyoke on October 14, 1925 and lived in Holyoke for most of her life until she retired and moved to Los Angeles in 1996 to reside with her only child, Michele (Rogowski) Berk. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Jozefa (Wywiorska) Kruczek. Florence graduated from Holyoke High School, sang in the Mater Dolorosa Church choir, was a member of the Children of Mary Sodality, the Polish Women’s Alliance, the global world peace group SGI-USA and a proud volunteer for Hilary Clinton’s Presidential campaign. She was preceded by her ex-husbands, Mitchell Rogowski and Thomas Leonard, a brother, Louie Kruczek, three sisters, Helen Dulak, Stasia Panagotopulos and Georgianna Janowiec . She is survived by her sister Natalie Boryczka, her daughter, Michele Berk and husband Michael Berk, step grandson, Joshua Berk and his wife Emily Berk, two great grandchildren, Desmond and Julian Berk and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial and burial service will be held on February 10th, 2018 at 11 am at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley. Florence was passionate about helping animals and regularly contributed to many animal welfare and rescue groups so the family requests that any “most appreciated” donations on her behalf be made to any of these worthy groups.
