George Dupont, Sr. passed away suddenly on Friday, July 10, 2020. He was born in New Bedford, MA on September 29, 1928 and moved to Chicopee with his family as a child.

George attended Chicopee High School but did not graduate because he enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving in the 1st Division (The Big Red One) in Berlin, Germany following the war. He was also called to active duty during the Korean War.

After his time in the military, George worked at Chicopee Manufacturing, where he met his first wife, Merle Elizabeth Dupont (nee Wall) who passed away in March of 1996. George then went to work at Hamilton-Standard in Windsor Locks, CT for thirty-four years in the Overhaul and Repair Department working on jet fuel controls for aircraft engines, retiring in September 1990.

George was a very active member of the Chicopee Falls Moose Lodge, the Tigers Athletic Club and the American Legion. He served forty plus years and was a Lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and served in several capacities, including Trustee, Junior Governor and Governor. He could be found working in the kitchen for innumerable events and fundraisers. George served as Deputy Supreme Governor for the MA/RI Moose State Association and in testimony of his years of service and sacrifice for Mooseheart and Moosehaven and humanity. George received the Pilgrim degree of Merit, at the House of God in May of 2000. the Highest Degree in the Loyal Order of Moose. George is survived by his current wife, Mary Dupont (nee Conroy), his daughter, Donna and her husband Michael Wiater, his son, George Jr (Skip) and his husband Dennis Link. Surviving siblings include his sister Dorothy Hurley, sister Irene Niemec and his brother, Joe Dupont. He also leaves behind one grandson, Jeffrey Waiter and his wife, Jennifer and their two children, George’s great grandchildren, Benjamin and Hannah, along with many nieces and nephews from the Dupont/Hurley/Niemec/Conroy families.

Calling hours are on Thursday, July 16th from 6 to 8 pm at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St, in Chicopee. Masks & social distancing are required. Burial with full military honors will be held on Friday at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Moose Family Center, 244 Fuller Rd. Chicopee, MA 01020.
