Helen A. (Szarek) Babiec, 76, of Chicopee, died on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at home with her family by her side. She was a teller and loan officer at the Polish National Credit Union and later retired as an office administrator from the law firm of Murphy & McCoubrey. Helen was born in Chicopee on June 15, 1940 and lived in Chicopee most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Stella (Przeszlo) Szarek. Helen was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She loved the Patriots, reading and spending time with her grandkids. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, John Babiec, a daughter, Catherine Niedziela and her husband, Stanley of Hadley, their children, Elizabeth and Emily; a daughter, Susanne Kimball of Goffstown, NH, her children, Sydney and Samantha and their father, Marc Kimball and a son, Matthew and his wife, Dana of Ludlow and their children, Kimberly and Jeffrey. Helen is predeceased by her parents and a brother, Henry Szarek. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 9 am from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St.in Chicopee, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Anthony of Padua Church at 10 am. Her burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm.
