Helen D. Gawron, 93, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. She was born in Chicopee to the late Rudolph and Victoria (Zimny) Gawron. Helen was predeceased by her sister, Genevieve Montmeny in 2007. She was a graduate of Chicopee High School, attended Mary Washington College and earned a BA degree from the University of New Hampshire. She was employed by the New England Telephone Co. in various management positions and was the first female business office manager in the company. Helen was a director of the Springfield Better Business Bureau, a member of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division, Zonta International, College Club of Springfield, Springfield Women’s Club and the Springfield Library and Museums Association. She was a docent for many years at the Fine Arts and Asian Arts Museums. Helen was a longtime member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus. She will be missed by several cousins and friends, especially Janet Rice, Eleanor Parke and Joann Gagne. A funeral home service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St. in Chicopee Center at 10 am. The burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. There will be an hour of visitation from 9 to 10 am. before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
