Irene M. (Topor) Socha, 84, of Chicopee, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at home. She was born on January 21, 1933 in Springfield and lived in Chicopee most of her life. Irene was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Walczak) Topor. She was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr. Irene was the chairman of Heart Sunday for the American Heart Association in Chicopee. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing the piano and ice skating. Irene loved her family so much that every Sunday there was “ The Family Get Together” at her home. She is survived by her son, David Socha and his wife, Debora of Ludlow; her daughter, Debbie Shultz and her husband, James of Chicopee; a brother, Richard Topor and his wife, Nancy of South Carolina; a granddaughter, Jamie Murphy and her husband, Jeffrey of Monson; three great grandchildren, Emma, Hannah and Thomas and her two nephews, Scott and Christine Topor and Eric and Mariko Topor. She is predeceased by her husband, Walter S. Socha, who died on December 21, 2010. Irene’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls at 9 am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the Basilica of St. Stanislaus at 10 am. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are on Friday from 4 to 7 pm.
