Mary Ellen (Courtney) Hazlett, 63, of Springfield, passed on Thursday, August 6, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.  She spent many years as the office manager of GMI, Gregory Manufacturing Corp. in Holyoke.  Mary was born on November 21, 1951 in Springfield and was a life-long resident of the city.  She was the daughter of the late John and Joan (Grummell) Courtney.  Mary enjoyed biking the Cape Cod bike trail with her sister, playing in a weekly golf league, reading, and traveling.  She also loved spending time with her granddaughter, whom she affectionately referred to as her “Peanut”.

Mary is survived by her husband, Robert G. Hazlett of Springfield; her son, Brian Hazlett and his wife, Shelly of Westfield; her daughter, Kerry Gerst and her husband, Dr. Christopher Gerst of Las Vegas, NV; her sister and best friend, Ann “Patty” Vasquez and her husband, Albert, of South Weymouth, MA; her brother, Thomas Courtney of Chicopee; her granddaughter, Georgia; two nieces and a nephew.

All services for Mary will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
