Michael J. Wolak, 73, of Chicopee, passed away Memorial Day, May 30th, 2016. He was born on January 10th, 1943 to Julian and Stella (Kuzniar) Wolak of Chicopee Falls. In his youth, Michael was an avid hockey player and enjoyed fishing the Swift River and other local streams and rivers. Michael was an expert film photographer and water color painter with many award winning pieces displayed at the library and local galleries.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Wolak Stoffolano of Greenfield, Ma, his sweetheart, Pat Yensen of Chicopee, his sister, Sandra Lucas of Shelter Island, NY, and his son Michael Wolak of Austin, Texas.

Michael was very fond of his three grandchildren, Luciano and Noah Stoffolano, and Kryzstof Tellez.

Michael proudly served his country from 1961-1964 in the US Coast Guard, making his way around the world on the USGC Eastwind (WAGB-279) for Operation Deep Freeze where he helped US scientists in Antarctica, among other exotic places.

Michael returned from the service and made a career as a Television Producer, Director, and Cinematographer at WGGB Channel 40 for over 40 years. He coached youth hockey for Tri-City and volunteered his time photo-documenting veteran events for the American Legion.

Michael’s positive attitude and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He was an inspiration and major influence to his children and will be missed dearly.

Calling hours for Michael will be on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St. in Chicopee Center from 4 to 7pm with a service at 6:30 pm. His burial with take place Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Massachusett Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1390 Main St. in Agawam at 2pm.
