Patricia (Pat) Maroney, 90, of Chicopee, died on Friday, August 28, 2020 at home with her family by her side. She was a lifelong public servant who retired after 25 years as a teacher for the Chicopee Public school system and 35 years as a decorated Chicopee High School cheerleading coach. Through her passion for cheerleading she forged many lifelong relationships and impacted and inspired many lives. She enjoyed vacationing with her friends and family in Wells, ME. Patricia was born on August 3, 1930 in Norwood, MA. She was the daughter of the late Mary Gillis and Albert Blanchot. Patricia was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and St. Patrick’s Church in Chicopee. Beside her parents, Patricia is predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Maroney Sr. her son Robert J. Maroney Jr. and three sisters, Francis Blanchot, Helen Kelley and Doris Marselli. Patricia is survived by her daughter, Kathleen F. Nadeau and her husband, Richard of Chicopee; three grandchildren, Christopher R. Nadeau and his wife Casey, Timothy J. Nadeau and his wife Stacy and Kevin R. Nadeau; four beloved great grandchildren Connor, Zachary, William and Charlotte and her very good friend, Dorothy Grigaitis. Patricia’s family would like to thank Spectrum Hospice for their wonderful care in her final days. As well as a very special nurse, Ava Wills who cared for her in her most recent years. Patricia’s funeral will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 9 AM from Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls. Followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 387 Chestnut St. in Springfield at 10 am. Burial will be in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Chicopee. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. Due to COVID-19, masks are required, please keep social distancing in mind and your visit with family brief.
