Robert A. Federowicz, known to many of his friends as “Feds,” passed away peacefully at the Fisher Home Hospice in Amherst, MA, November 11, 2018. He was 74.

Born in Chicopee, Bob was the only child of the late Anthony M. and Helen G. (Midura) Federowicz, who were lifelong residents of Chicopee.

Before taking sick in recent years, Bob had been living in Chicopee, where he also spent his childhood years, in a house built by his paternal grandfather. After productive and fulfilling careers with the United States Air Force and in residential and commercial real estate in Fairfield, California, he retired and returned to Chicopee and to his ancestral home in 2000 and made friends with many of his neighbors in the close-knit community. He spent his retirement years walking his dog around the neighborhood and traveling far and wide to feed his lifelong interests in fly fishing and downhill skiing. Since 2000, Bob has been a member of the Portuguese Club in Chicopee, where he had many friends and enjoyed many a fine Friday evening dinner.

In the 1950s, Bob was frequently among the neighborhood kids who gathered almost daily to play baseball and football at Lincoln Grove, near his childhood home. He attended St. Stanislaus School through eighth grade, and went on to Chicopee High School, from which he graduated in 1961. He graduated from American International College in Springfield in 1965.

In 1964, Bob began paying regular visits to Amherst College, where a lifelong friend of his was studying. Over the next 65 years, he was to make many friends in several different classes at the college, including a large number of friends from the Psi Upsilon fraternity. He regularly visited the college for sports events and Homecoming weekends and came to be considered an “honorary” member of the Class of 1964 and an “honorary” brother of Psi Upsilon. Recently he was officially recognized as such by the National Headquarters of Psi Upsilon and was presented with a personalized fraternity pin and certificate.

After his graduation from AIC, Bob joined the U.S. Air Force, and enjoyed a successful 20-year career as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer, retiring with the rank of Major. He traveled widely throughout Europe during this period and was stationed in California and Washington State for a number of years.

Following his Air Force years, Bob joined with a well-known figure in a residential and commercial real estate business serving Fairfield, California, near Travis Air Force Base, where Bob had been stationed. There, he pursued a successful career in real estate until 2000, when he retired and returned to Chicopee.

A brief service for Bob will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10 am at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Followed by his burial at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery St. Chicopee. A day of remembrance for Bob is being planned in the Spring of 2019.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert A. Federowicz Charitable Foundation, which has been established by Bob to provide financial assistance to highly qualified students from Chicopee to attend the schools and colleges of their choice. Mail contributions c/o Ziemba, 58 Lime Street, Unit 1, Newburyport, MA 01950.
