Teresa (Gennusa) Mitera, 88, a longtime resident of Chicopee, MA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center. She was very passionate about cooking and gardening. Most of all, she loved tending to the flowers in her garden as well as her admiration for butterflies. She enjoyed cooking for family and having family gatherings at her home.

Teresa was born on July 28, 1931 in Bisacquino, a town in the province of Palermo, Sicily. She was a daughter of the late Francesco Gennusa and Anna (Rosato) Gennusa. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Chicopee, MA. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene, of almost sixty-six years. She was also predeceased by two sisters – Francesca Clark and Josephina Balboni. She leaves behind her two sons – Michael D. Mitera and his wife Theresa of Holyoke, Frank J. Mitera and his wife Janet of Belchertown, and her daughter Carolann Mitera of Wallingford, CT. In addition, she leaves behind three sisters -Vincenza, Innoccennza, and Mary as well as her six grandchildren – Joshua, Christine, Jennifer, Kimberly, Matthew, and Andrew whom she loved and cherished dearly. A private memorial service will be held at Cierpial Funeral Home in Chicopee, MA. A private burial will take place at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Teresa’s memory to St. Stanislaus Basilica.
