Veronica “Ronnie” (Piantek) Hamel, 97, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was a graduate of the Chicopee school system and worked at F. W. Sickles and Smith and Wesson until her retirement. Ronnie loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, attending functions at her church, The Basilica of St. Stanislaus, and spending time with her family, especially her great-nieces, Kimberly and Sara Dymek. Her quick wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Ronnie was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Hamel in 2001 and eight siblings, James, Frank, Joseph, Stanley and Theodore Piantek, Josephine Mahorski, Sophie Pobieglo and Florence Dymek and nieces and nephews, Barbara Mahorski, Theresa Piecuch and Stanley “Sunny” Piantek. She will be greatly missed by her nephews, David Dymek, Ronald Dymek, John Piantek, Andrew Himmen and Michael Himmen and nieces Fran Alix, Trish Sedmak, Dorothy Scytkowski, Joanne Hurtung and Katherine Haas. Special thanks to all the staff of Mount Saint Vincent Nursing Home in Holyoke, who took such wonderful care of Ronnie. Ronnie’s wake will be on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the Basilica of St. Stanislaus at 11 am. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
